Donk Bet

A donk bet is a bet made by the out-of-position player into the preflop raiser, rather than checking to them. Historically considered a weak play (hence 'donk'), modern poker theory recognizes strategic donk bets on specific board textures where the out-of-position player has a range advantage. It prevents the raiser from realizing free equity and can put them in tough spots.

Example

On a 7♠ 7♦ 2♥ flop, the big blind donk bets into the preflop raiser because the BB's range connects better with this paired board.
